St. Petersburg Distance Classic
The St. Petersburg Distance Classic is a set of on-site and virtual running events held at North Shore Park, 901 North Shore Dr. NE, Saint Petersburg, Florida. The event program includes a USATF certified marathon course (FL19019TY) that serves as a Boston Marathon qualifier, plus a half marathon, 10K, and 5K. Virtual options are offered for all four distances and finisher medals for virtual participants are mailed within two weeks after the races.
Course notes describe a largely flat layout. All four race courses share the first two miles as they head north into Snell Isle. The 5K returns to the finish after a turn at mile two. Other distances continue north around Coffee Pot Bayou, return to North Shore Park, then proceed south along the waterfront, through downtown and along Central Avenue with its shops, cafes, and murals. At mile ten the half marathon and marathon split at the Pinellas Trail; the half returns east toward the waterfront while the marathon continues west to complete marathon mileage before finishing at the waterfront. The marathon route includes one 10 foot bridge and two pedestrian bridges spanning the Pinellas Trail that are ascended twice.
Additional event elements in 2027 include musical entertainment along the courses and pacers for the marathon and half marathon. Volunteer roles are organized for individual and group assignments and include packet pickup, race day registration, food and beverage distribution, medal and water distribution, and course marshals. Nearby white sand beaches are available for post-race recovery and typical temperatures range from 56 to 71 degrees Fahrenheit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
