Event
Phoenix South Wales stages "South Wales - NOT The London Marathon" in Cardiff Bay on Sunday 26 April 2026. The event is a timed, multi-distance format with a 7-hour maximum time. Entry categories include paid options and a lower-cost "no medal" option; listed prices are £33 (affiliated) and £35 (unaffiliated), with a no-medal option from £20. Distance restrictions apply for participants aged 20 or under, in line with UK Athletics rules. The event uses flexible, staggered start arrangements so participants can begin at different times on the day.
Course and logistics
The course is an out-and-back lap of 5.3 km (3.28 miles) along Cardiff Bay, measured and classed as Road with UKACM certificate 25/504. Runners can complete multiple laps to reach chosen distances, which include:
- 5 km
- 10 km
- Half marathon
- Marathon
- Ultra
Each lap has about 23 m elevation gain and the surface is mainly tarmac or pavement with one short wooden boardwalk section. The lap starts and finishes at the Norwegian Church in Cardiff Bay and passes landmarks such as the Senedd, Pierhead Building, Roald Dahl Plass, and the Wales Millennium Centre. Parking is available at The Lock Keepers Cottage car park (postcode CF10 4PA, 24 hours); Harbour Drive parking is limited to 3 hours. Welsh Athletics race license has been applied for.
