Sport In Action 5K Series
The Sport In Action 5K Series concludes with Race 5, the final event of the series held at the Sheepmount in Carlisle. This event features an officially measured 5 km course that adheres to UKA rules. The route primarily consists of a mixture of park paths, pavements, and quiet roads.
The course is described as mainly flat with generally good road surfaces. The race route begins with a loop of Bitts Park before heading toward Carlisle Castle. Once at the castle, participants complete two full laps of the historic site. After the laps are finished, the course leads back toward the Sheepmount Stadium, where the finish line is located near the small grandstand.
Registration takes place at the event headquarters, where race numbers are issued. A safety briefing is conducted prior to the start to inform participants of the route and safety requirements regarding turns, cars, and cyclists. Professional timing services are used, and results are typically available shortly after the race begins.
Awards are presented to the first, second, and third-place male and female finishers overall. Additionally, age group prizes are awarded based on the number of competitors in each category. If an age-group runner finishes in the top three overall, the age-group prize moves to the next person in that category.
