Event Details
The Great Cumbrian Run takes place on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at the Sheepmount in Carlisle. The event is managed by Better and Sport in Action.
Distances
The event offers four race distances:
- 13.1 Miles (Half Marathon, 17 years plus)
- 10 km (15 years plus)
- 3.1 Miles (5K, age-based pricing for 11-15 years old and 16+)
- 1.1 Miles (Family Fun Run, any age)
The half marathon is described as Cumbria's leading half marathon, having been established in 1982.
Registration and Start
Registration closes on October 1, 2026. Race numbers for entries before September 20th are posted; entries after that date can be collected on site. Collection is available on Friday, October 2nd; Saturday, October 3rd; and Sunday, October 4th before the race. The races start from Mayor's Drive next to the tennis courts. The Family Fun Run starts shortly after the last runner from the main event crosses the start line and will be timed for 2026.
Charitable Aspect
The event supports several local charities, including Eden Valley Hospice, Every Life Matters, Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland, and ICAAN. Organizers encourage donations to support these partners. Profits from the event are reinvested into local community facilities and services.
