About the race
The District Back Yard Ultra is a Backyard Ultra event scheduled for early October 2026 at Into the Woods, Cumbria. The route runs with wide open views toward Blencathra and the Lake District fells to the west and the Pennine Hills to the east. The terrain is described as undulating and generally runnable, offering Lake District scenery without extreme elevation.
The race follows the standard Backyard Ultra format: one loop, one hour, every hour. Runners must complete each loop before the top of the hour to continue; failing to complete a loop ends that competitor’s race. The last person to complete a solo yard is the winner.
The course is set to the exact Backyard Ultra distance of 4.167 miles / 6.706 km per yard. Expect a single runnable trail loop with countryside character and enough variation to remain testing across multiple yards.
Entry offers include free entry for athletes who have won a Backyard Ultra in the last two years and a 50% discount for athletes who have completed 30 or more yards at a Backyard Ultra. The organiser reserves the right to verify results.
Camping is included for athletes and crew as part of entry; additional tent and camper van tickets are available. Each competitor receives a 3m x 3m pitch. This is a self-supported event with an aid station supplying water and basic items; participants should plan for power, lighting, shelter and personal supplies. Numbers are restricted.
