Event Overview
The Splash of Color is a community walking and running event held at Garvin Park in Evansville. It features a timed 5K course and a shorter 1-mile family distance. The event serves as a fundraiser for the St. Vincent Early Learning Center to support early childhood education programs and nature exploration initiatives like "Trails on a Smaller Scale."
Participants can choose between two main distances:
- 5K Run and Walk
- 1-Mile Family Fun Walk
Course Information
The 5K and 1-mile routes are out-and-back courses starting on Bob Griese Pass. Participants travel through Garvin Park, pass the lake, and continue onto the Pigeon Creek Greenway. The 1-mile turn-around point is under Highway 66, while the 5K turn-around is located just before Stringtown Road. The surface includes park paths and greenway trails.
Features and Experience
A central feature of the event is the color stations where participants are splashed with non-toxic, biodegradable color dust. Those who wish to avoid the color can stay to one side of the course. A white or light-colored shirt is recommended for those wanting to display the color splashes. Strollers are permitted in the 5K Walk and the 1-mile Family Walk. Pets, skates, skateboards, and scooters are not allowed on the courses.
Awards and Recognition
The 5K race is officially timed. Awards are presented to the top two male and female runners in several age brackets, ranging from age 8 to 99. There is also an overall award for the fastest male and female runners. While the 1-mile walk is not categorized by age, participants aged 0-7 receive a commemorative award while supplies last.
