Special Steps 5k
The Special Steps 5k takes place on April 11, 2026, at Chris Gilman Stadium in Kingsland, GA. It is the fifth annual event held to celebrate and support a local non-profit that serves adults with exceptional needs. The event offers options to run, walk, or stroll the 5-kilometer course and states that participants of all ages and abilities are accommodated.
Special Steps meetings focus on creative pursuits, athletic activities, and the development of new skills; this event is presented as part of that community program. Packet pickup is held at Chris Gilman Stadium prior to the event, and awards are presented at the stadium 50 yard line. Water stations are available on the course and at the finish area.
All participants receive a race shirt and a drawstring backpack goodie bag. Awards provided through Game Changers Running Co include prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd male and female finishers, with details such as a personalized shoe fitting and a pair of shoes for first place, a $50 gift card for second, and a pair of Goodr sunglasses for third. The event also presents overall and age-group awards (age groups: 0-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50 Plus) with each runner eligible for only one award.
