Holiday Themed Road Race in Asheville
The Sock It To Me Santa event is a festive running celebration held in downtown Asheville, North Carolina. The race is designed to combine seasonal holiday cheer with community support, as proceeds from the event benefit the Asheville City Schools Band Programs. The course travels through different local neighborhoods, including the South Slope and the River Arts District, offering views of the city's urban landscape and natural surroundings.
The event features two distinct distances:
- 5k: A chip-timed road race through downtown Asheville open to all abilities.
- Snowflake Chaser: A short fun run for children consisting of one loop on the track.
The 5k participants receive a long-sleeved tech t-shirt, a custom race bib, and a finisher medal. Awards are presented to the top three overall male, female, and nonbinary finishers, as well as winners in the Masters and Grand Masters categories. Age group prizes are also available for several brackets ranging from 9 and under to 80 and over. Additionally, the organizers recognize participants with awards for the best holiday-themed costumes and apparel.
The race starts and finishes at Asheville Middle School. For safety and insurance reasons, animals are not permitted on the course with participants. Registration must be completed online in advance, as there is no race day registration available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
