South Asheville Turkey Trot 5K
The South Asheville Turkey Trot is an annual Thanksgiving event presented by Hunter Subaru, held in Biltmore Park Town Square and the surrounding neighborhood in South Asheville. The event features a 5K (3.1 miles) out-and-back style course that starts and finishes in Biltmore Park Town Square and routes through quiet residential streets with minimal vehicle traffic.
The course is USATF certified and fully marked, and the event uses professional chip timing. The route includes a few moderate hills typical of the area. Organizers note that this is the only running event permitted in this neighborhood.
Participant offerings include a race shirt (free until the event deadline, then priced afterward), discounted pricing for children 12 and under, a custom commemorative finisher medal featuring a spinning turkey, and awards for overall top finishers and top finishers in each age group. Additional prizes are given for creative costumes. A virtual option is available for those who cannot attend in person; virtual participants receive shirt and finisher items by mail when offered.
The event may be subject to permit approvals and changes to date or course. Strollers may participate with safety considerations and are asked to start toward the back if not competing; dogs are welcome as spectators but are not permitted to race.
