The half marathon and 7-mile courses circle Burnaby Lake and use trails through the park. Burnaby Lake Regional Park is described as a wildlife sanctuary in the middle of the city. The lake was formed by a glacier about 12,000 years ago and its shores had sawmills in the late 1800s. For this event the route around the lake runs in the opposite direction from the Rubber Ducky Half Marathon.
