Event overview
The Seneca7 is a team relay around Seneca Lake in Geneva, New York. The route is a counter-clockwise circumnavigation of the lake totaling about 77.7'ish miles, starting and finishing at the New York Welcome Center in Lakefront Park. The course passes vineyards and small towns, includes lake views and a waterfall in Hector, and goes through state park land such as Sampson. The 2026 edition is scheduled for April 26, 2026. Packet pick-up takes place the day before at the Finger Lakes Welcome Center and there is a virtual pre-race briefing in mid-April.
Format and key rules
The event is run as a seven-person relay. Teams must register seven members, have signed waivers and roster information submitted by late March, and all members must be present at their wave start. Each team must keep the same runner rotation order for the whole race; runners unable to complete their legs must be covered by existing team members while maintaining the original sequence.
Relays receive a slap-bracelet baton and bibs; one bib contains a timing chip and must be worn by the final leg runner. Teams may use only one vehicle that must fit in a standard parking space. Certain exchange points have time considerations - teams arriving too early may be held and teams missing cutoffs may be required to leave the course. A reflective safety vest is required on specified legs and for any runner on course after 7:00 pm. Alcohol consumption on course is prohibited, and participants must use provided toilets or public facilities and avoid littering. Registration normally opens each October, with early and charity registration windows in late October and early November. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
