Event Overview

The Waterloo Memorial Day 5K Run/Walk "A Tribute To The Fallen" takes place on Saturday, May 23, 2026. The run winds through the historic village of Waterloo, which is recognized as the birthplace of Memorial Day.

Course Details

The 5 km route begins and ends at Tom Coughlin Stadium at Waterloo High School. The course is described as fairly flat and fast, passing by historic cemeteries, St. Mary's Church, and the VFW on Wright Avenue. It is a USATF-certified course (NY16107KL). Water is provided on the course, and the event uses chip timing by Leone Timing.

Registration & Logistics

  • Pre-registration through May 21st costs $30.00, with a fee of $15.00 for children aged 12 and under.
  • Prices increase to $35.00 on race weekend, and $20.00 for children under 12.
  • All registrations are online only; no paper or cash payments are accepted.
  • Packet pickup is at Waterloo High School on the morning of the event from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM.
  • A race t-shirt is guaranteed for those who pre-register by May 5th.

Awards & Results

The first male and first female finishers each receive a $100 prize. Awards are given across many age groups, from 0-10 to 70 and over. The first male and female in each age group receive a special Age Group Champion shirt, while second and third place finishers receive a 2nd or 3rd place shirt.
