Schaeffer Half Marathon, 10K, 5K Trail Run
Schaeffer Trail Runs take place at Button Farm in Germantown, MD on November 7, 2026. The event is staged on private farmland and combines twisty singletrack with open farm field running. The 5K and 10K use the same layout as the summer Blue Crab Bolt course, with a noticeably different late fall landscape. The half marathon mixes extended singletrack sections with unique open-field running.
Course options:
- 13.5 miles (half marathon), 1,000 ft elevation gain.
- 6.7 miles (10K), 500 ft elevation gain.
- 3.2 miles (5K), 230 ft elevation gain.
Facilities and services include well-stocked aid stations, portajons at the start/finish and at specified mile markers, medical support, finisher medals, awards and post-race food such as breakfast burritos. The race provides professional operations, volunteer support, participant shirts and occasional sponsor give-aways.
Logistics note that Button Farm is a working farm with roaming animals; participants and visitors are asked to drive slowly and to respect that the property is private and open only for designated events. Race rules require visible race numbers, no in-ear headphones, no pets, pacers, or strollers on course, and staying on designated trails. Outside assistance is allowed only within 50 meters of aid stations. Age-group categories are offered for Male, Female and Non-Binary divisions from 12-U through 70-79.
