Scafell Pike Trail Marathon

The Scafell Pike Trail Marathon is a mountain trail race based in Keswick that routes over Scafell Pike. The course distance is 44 km / 27 miles with total ascent/descent of approximately 1800 m/1790 m. The start location is Lingholm and the event venue and finish is Crow Park, Lake Road, Keswick.

Approximately 90% of the route is singletrack. The summit area of Scafell Pike is a boulder field with steep, rocky terrain and an initial descent that is steep and covered with loose rocks. The course is marked from the start to Seathwaite; the mountain section between Seathwaite, Styhead, Scafell Pike and Esk Hause is unmarked and requires navigation skills. A GPX file is available for download but printed maps are required as part of the mandatory kit.

There are seven manned timing checkpoints that must be visited in order. Feed stations and aid include provision at Seathwaite (out and return) and at Watendlath Beck; Seathwaite will offer water, coke and juice while Watendlath will provide water only. Drop bags for personal nutrition are transported to Seathwaite and participants are asked to bring their own bottle, bladder or soft cup. Mandatory kit lists and checkpoint details are published by the organiser.

Entries are for adults aged 18 and over. The event offers electronic chip timing, a finishers medal, online registration, mountain safety cover and qualified medical support. The race is licensed by the Trail Running Association and is a UTMB World Series qualifier. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
