Scafell Pike Trail Marathon

The Scafell Pike Trail Marathon is a trail event based in Keswick that crosses Scafell Pike and runs through Borrowdale and surrounding fells. The route covers approximately 44 km (27 miles) with around 1800 m of ascent and 1790 m of descent. The course uses lakeshore trails, wooded valleys and high mountain trails, with about 90% singletrack and steep rocky sections near the summit. The summit plateau is a boulder field and the initial part of the descent has loose rock.

The course is marked from the start to Seathwaite. The mountain section between Seathwaite, Styhead, Scafell Pike, Esk Hause and back to Seathwaite is unmarked; the route follows main trails but navigation ability is required. A GPX file is available for download and participants must carry a printed map covering the unmarked section as part of the mandatory kit. Seven manned control checkpoints must be visited in order and aid stations are located at Seathwaite (out and return) and Watendlath Beck.

Entries are limited to 200 places and the minimum age is 18 years on race day. The event provides mountain safety cover, qualified medical support, electronic chip timing, a finishers medal and a drop bag shuttle. Water and basic drinks are available at aid stations and participants should carry personal nutrition and a refillable container. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
