Scafell Pike Marathon
The Scafell Pike Marathon is a fell marathon held on 23rd August 2026 around the Borrowdale Valley, finishing at Crow Park in Keswick. The route covers 27 miles / 44km and includes ascent and descent of Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain. All finishers receive a bespoke medal and event photographs are available to download.
Approximately 90% of the course is singletrack trail. The ascent to Scafell Pike involves steep, rocky ground and a summit plateau of large boulders. The initial part of the main descent is steep and covered in loose rock. The route is marked from the start to Seathwaite; the mountain section between Seathwaite, Styhead, Scafell Pike, Esk Hause and back to Seathwaite is unmarked and follows main trails. Navigational devices are permitted and a GPX file will be available, but runners must be competent with navigation in case a device fails.
There is a compulsory kit list that will be checked at registration. Required items include waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, map and compass, whistle, emergency foil blanket or bivi bag, a basic first aid kit, water container, energy food and appropriate footwear and clothing. Facilities on course include water and feed stations at Seathwaite and Watendlath, toilets at registration and finish, a refreshment van at the finish, and drop bags transported to the Seathwaite aid station.
The race holds a Trail Running Association permit and is conducted under UK Athletics rules. Prizes are awarded in open and age-group categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
