Sandy Bottom 8-Hour Training Run
The Sandy Bottom training runs take place at Sandy Bottom Nature Park in Hampton, VA on January 9, 2027. The event offers timed loop running on an approximately 5 km trail course that is described as very flat and easy to navigate. The start and finish are adjacent to the Lakeside Pavilion. A GPX file and the official park map are available for download.
Distances and formats:
- 8 Hour event
- 4 Hour event
- 5 km race
The event is presented by the Peninsula Track Club; Lion's Pride Racing is listed as organizer. Parking and setup are allowed once the park opens at sunrise. Check-in and a race briefing take place before the races begin. Late starts are permitted for the 8-hour and 4-hour events if the race director is notified.
This is a cupless event, so runners should bring their own hydration device. An aid station will provide water, sports drink, and food, including gluten-free, vegan, and nondairy options. Aid station details will be shared closer to race day.
All finishers receive a homemade medal. Additional swag may include customized beanies, neck gaiters, and bottle openers. Custom long-sleeve shirts are available as an add-on; orders placed after December 25 may not arrive before race day. A heated restroom in the Nature Center will serve as the primary facility during the event, with additional bathrooms near the playground available earlier. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
