Ian Burgett's Thanksgiving Day Fun Run is a Thanksgiving morning community run held in Smithfield, VA at 903 Gatling Pointe Pkwy on November 26, 2026. The event offers two distance options:

The run serves as the primary fundraiser for the Ian Michael Burgett Memorial Scholarship and is administered by the Ian Michael Burgett Memorial Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The fund awards yearly $2,000 scholarship(s) to local college-bound high school seniors and provides matching funds to the Riverside Health System Foundation Ian Burgett Healthcare Heroes Scholarship. As the fund grows, organizers plan to identify and support additional programs aligned with the fund's mission.
The event began in 2012 as a Thanksgiving morning gathering held seven months after Ian's death. Over the following years it was run as an official timed 5K with awards; the organizers paused the larger format in 2022 to reevaluate and returned in 2023 to the original fun run format without formal timing. Current sponsors listed for the event include Walls Insurance, Gatling Pointe Yacht Club, Grafik Trenz, Summerwind Vineyard, Fathom Realty, Smithfield VA Events, and Liz Moore Realty. Sponsorships were being accepted through November 16 for the listed year. Donations and many sponsorships are tax deductible, with receipts available on request.
