Get Outside 8 Hour
The Get Outside 8 Hour takes place at Windsor Castle Park in Smithfield, Virginia. Held during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the event is designed as an opportunity for participants to spend time outdoors on the local trail system. The race utilizes a 5 km loop that features approximately 150 feet of elevation gain per lap. The course consists of trails with two street crossings where vehicle traffic is typically minimal.
Participants can choose from several timed formats and distance options:
- 8 Hour
- 4 Hour (Half GO)
- 10 km
- Ruck 8 Hour
- Ruck 4 Hour
Those participating in the Rucking categories are required to carry a minimum of 10 pounds in their backpack or rucksack. The event is conducted in a low-key manner, with laps officially counted and tracked to determine total mileage.
A fully stocked aid station is available at the start/finish area of the loop, offering standard ultra-running supplies including hot soup and other hot food items. Due to the short loop format, there are no intermediate aid stations on the course. Runners are permitted to set up personal chairs or tents up to 10x10 in size near the trail. All finishers receive a homemade medal and an additional finisher item. Awards are presented to the top three men and women in each category based on total distance covered.
