About the race
Ferguson Cares and Peninsula Track Club stage the Fast Before the Feast 5K on Thanksgiving Day in Newport News, Virginia. The event offers both an in person 5K at Mariners' Museum Park and a virtual 5K option for participants who prefer to run or walk remotely during Thanksgiving week.
The in person race uses an out-and-back course on the roads of Mariners' Museum Park. In person participation is limited to 800 entrants and there is no race day registration. In person registration opens August 23, 2026 and closes October 30, 2026; the registration fee is $35.00. To guarantee a race shirt in a chosen size for the in person event, registration must be completed by November 6, 2026.
The virtual 5K has no participant limit. Virtual registration opens August 23, 2026 and closes November 26, 2026; the registration fee is $35.00. Virtual registrants will receive a race shirt in December and each virtual registration contributes 50 meals to families facing food insecurity.
Race proceeds benefit the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank. Registrations and optional donations support the foodbank's efforts to assist people in need. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
