Salt Creek 24 : Port Angeles, Washington
Salt Creek 24 is a multi-format endurance running event held at Salt Creek Recreation Area in Port Angeles, Washington. The event offers several participation options:
- 12 hour race solo
- 24 hour race solo
- 24 hour relay team (shared bib/chip)
- Last Runner Standing summit challenge
The main loop for the 12 and 24 hour events is a 1.4 mile circuit that uses a mix of paved and unpaved surfaces, includes about 100 feet of elevation change via steps, passes a World War II bunker, and finishes on soft trail and grass. Relay teams share one timing chip and exchange only at the start/finish area. Last Runner Standing is an out-and-back singletrack route to Striped Peak of about 3.7 miles round trip with roughly 1,000 feet of elevation gain per summit; participants repeat the summit until only one remains.
Aid stations are stocked throughout the event and feature scheduled hot food times such as Mashed Potato Hour and Bacon Hour. The park provides flush toilets, additional portable toilets, and showers for paid campers. Participants must carry a light source and wear a visible light on their back during dark hours, and are required to bring personal dishware and two cans of soup for a local food bank donation. Awards recognize top mileage in male, female, and non-binary categories, teams, and Last Runner Standing, and a belt buckle is awarded for any individual who reaches 100 miles.
