Rut Rogue 40s - Plum Branch, SC

Rut Rogue 40s is scheduled for February 7, 2027, with the event location listed as Plum Branch, SC. The Wine, Turkey Creek and Modoc trails remain closed due to Hurricane Helene damage, and organizers are seeking alternative locations for 2027. Registration opens October 1, 2026.

The course is primarily out-and-back on near-continuous single-track trail and follows wooded sections with creekside running. Runners will encounter rocks, roots, bridges, logs, water crossings and rolling terrain. The route is marked at specific turns on trails that are mostly single track with few side trails. No pacers or crews are allowed. An 11-hour cut-off applies and participants may change to a lower mileage event 24 hours before the race.

Distances offered:

  • 40 Miler
  • 50K
  • 40K

Aid is provided at 3 to 5 stations depending on the chosen event, spaced about every 5-7 miles. The race is cup-free and runners should bring personal hydration. Typical aid station supplies include water, Tailwind, sodas, snacks, fruit, potatoes, and PB&J sandwiches. Drop bags for 40-miler runners are accepted at check-in and transported to aid stations at approximately miles 22 and 34; bags must be labeled with name and bib number.

Relay teams of 2 to 5 runners complete five legs (approx. 11, 8, 4, 12, and 6 miles). Teams may not run consecutive legs and leg distances may be adjusted slightly based on conditions.

Parking at the start/finish is limited, on a rugged gravel road, with a large field used for parking a short distance from the start/finish. Trails are public use; runners may encounter hikers or mountain bikers and should yield where appropriate. Trails are remote and marked with half-mile mileage markers; runners are advised to note nearby markers and the closest aid station if assistance is needed.

Event proceeds support future years of the event and local organizations such as FATS 50K, Augusta Trail Runners, and the Augusta Eagles XC Team. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
