Event Overview

The Run Your Socks Off event is organized by the Down Syndrome Association of SWLA in honor of World Down Syndrome Day. It takes place on March 21-22, 2026 in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Race Details

The event is not a traditional 5K. Instead, it is a 3.21-mile walk/run. The distance is symbolic, representing the three copies of the 21st chromosome characteristic of Down syndrome. The event is open to runners and walkers of all abilities. Awards are given in multiple categories, including overall male and female, overall male and female with Down syndrome, masters advocates, grand masters advocates, and top finishers in standard age groups.

Location and Course

The race starts and finishes at the Crying Eagle Brewing Company at 1165 E. McNeese St. in Lake Charles. A detailed route is provided through the surrounding streets. Packet pickup is scheduled for the day before the event at Southern Specialty Products on Prien Lake Road.

Registration and Logistics

The registration fee is $40. Onsite or day-of registration increases to $45. All registration fees are non-refundable and are considered a donation. Participants can register for either the in-person race or a virtual event. Race timing and scoring are handled by Race Pace Multisport, LLC. Results are posted online, near the finish line, via email, and on a Facebook page. Participants are issued bib numbers that must be worn on the front.
