Run Walk for the Zebra
The NHRC Run Walk for the Zebra is a community sports event held in New Hope, Pennsylvania, dedicated to raising awareness for rare diseases. The zebra serves as the official symbol for the approximately 10,000 unique rare diseases affecting patients in the United States. Proceeds from the event support patient assistance funds at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, providing financial aid to families navigating pediatric rare disease diagnoses.
Participants can choose from multiple event formats:
- 5 km timed run (3.1 miles)
- 1 mile walk, roll, or stroll
- Virtual participation option available globally
The 5 km course is open to all registration types, including participants following a general training program or competitive runners. The 1 mile route is designed for walkers, strollers, and those using mobility aids, featuring shortcut options along the path. This portion is organized as a family friendly outdoor activity.
For those unable to attend the in-person event at Union Square Drive, a virtual option allows participation from any location throughout the month of February. Virtual participants report their completion based on an honor system to receive event materials. The in-person event is organized by the New Hope Run Club, a local movement group based in Pennsylvania. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
