Rothwell Cakeathon
The Rothwell Cakeathon is a mixed-terrain trail event held in West Yorkshire, starting from the Leeds Skelton Lake Services at M1 Junction 45. The venue provides access to various facilities and free parking. The course features a variety of surfaces including woodland trails, riverside paths, open grass sections, and hard-packed trails, offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside.
Participants can choose from several distances based on a looped course:
- 6.7 Miler (1 loop)
- Half Marathon (2 loops)
- 20 Mile (3 loops)
- Marathon (4 loops)
The event is designed to be inclusive, with a 6.5-hour cut-off time that accommodates both runners and walkers. The races are licensed by the Trail Running Association under UKA rules. Support is provided throughout the event with regular water and feed stations positioned approximately every three miles. These stations offer sweet and savoury snacks. In line with waste reduction efforts, the event is cup-free, and participants must bring their own reusable bottles or cups.
Safety regulations are in place regarding headwear; large over-ear headphones are not permitted, though bone-conducting or "one in, one out" in-ear headphones are allowed. At the finish, participants receive a bespoke medal and a selection of cake. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
