Rothwell Cakeathon
Rothwell Cakeathon is a trail running event organised by Its Grim Up North Running at Leeds Skelton Lake Services, M1 Junction 45, Skelton, Leeds LS9 0AS. The event offers multiple distances on a mixed-terrain course and uses the services' facilities and parking for convenience.
Distances:
- 6.7 Mile (1 loop)
- Half Marathon (2 loops)
- 20 Mile (3 loops)
- Marathon (4 loops)
The course combines woodland trails, open grass sections, hard-packed trail and scenic countryside with riverside and woodland views. Feed stations are provided approximately every 3 miles and supply sweet and savoury snacks. Runners receive a bespoke finisher medal and there is a substantial post-race cake offering and a social area with drinks.
The venue is noted as an environmentally conscious motorway service station with a rooftop bird hide. Free parking is available and car sharing is encouraged. The event operates a cup-free policy and requests reusable cups or bottles at feed stations. Headphone rules apply: large over-ear headphones are not permitted, bone-conducting headphones are allowed, and in-ear use is permitted one in, one out. There may be unmanned road crossings on the route. Transfers can be self-managed via the organiser website and deferrals close one week before race day. All races are licensed by the Trail Running Association under UKA Rules and the event uses a 6.5 hour cut-off time. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
