Darkwood Demon
Darkwood Demon is a single-lap trail race in the Colne Valley near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, held on 13 September 2026. The course covers 6.0 miles (9.7 km) with approximately 990 feet (300 m) of ascent and is described as hilly. The route surface is primarily trail with around 85% trail and 15% road.
The course travels over towpath, bridleway, moorland, bogs and woodland, including a climb up Slaithwaite Moor to the top of Cupwith followed by a fast descent towards the finish at Zapato Brewery. The route is fully marshalled and waymarked so navigation is not required. The event is chip timed. Trail shoes are strongly recommended though there are no compulsory kit requirements.
Race headquarters is at Zapato Brewery, Holme Mills, West Slaithwaite Road, Marsden, Huddersfield, HD7 6LS. Facilities at the event include water and toilets. There is free on-site parking and bib numbers are collected inside race HQ. There are no distance markers, no changing facilities, no showers and no baggage storage.
Entry is limited to 250 places and the minimum age for entrants is 16. Entry fees are £8.00 for affiliated runners and £10.00 for unaffiliated runners; if the event has not sold out entry on the day is available for an additional £1. The race is held under UK Athletics rules. Prizes include trophies for first placed male and female plus prizes for the top three in each gender and age category.
