Rothwell Kebabathon
Rothwell Kebabathon is a trail running event based at Skelton Lake Services off the M1 (J45) in Leeds. The route begins behind the services and goes into Rothwell Country Park, passing woodland, riverside paths, grass trail and some short road sections.
The service station includes a rooftop bird hide and on site facilities; for every participant 50p is donated to the RSPB. The event aims to be cupless and requests runners bring a reusable cup or bottle. Plenty of free parking is available and car sharing is encouraged to reduce environmental impact.
Support on course includes water and feed stations roughly every three miles and marshals positioned along the route. There may be unmarshalled road crossings. For safety, large over ear headphones are not permitted; acceptable options are bone conducting headphones or keeping one ear free. The organiser notes a generous 6.5 hour cut off and states both walkers and runners are welcome.
Distances offered include:
- Marathon (TRA licensed)
- 20 Miles (TRA licensed)
- Half Marathon (TRA licensed)
- 6.7 Miles (TRA licensed)
Finishers receive a bespoke medal; the finish area provides hot and cold drinks and kebabs and is arranged as a social gathering space. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
