ROO Race Series : Clancy, Montana · June 25–26, 2027
ROO is a two day race weekend held on private ranchland near Clancy, Montana. The event combines multiple trail distances with a Backyard Ultra format on the same property so runners, crews, and spectators remain together throughout the weekend.
Distances offered include:
- Backyard Ultra - one 4.17-mile loop every hour until one runner remains
- 50K trail ultramarathon
- 25K trail race
- 10K trail race
- Little ROO Mile one mile for youth
The Backyard Ultra format requires runners to return to the start corral before the next hour begins; laps repeat on the same loop. The ranch setting emphasizes crew access and a central camp experience where support people can stay near the course and the start line.
The inaugural ROO Ultra in 2026 produced several measurable outcomes: the Backyard Ultra reached 39 hours with a winning distance of 163.8 miles, competitors represented 11 states, 494 laps were completed, 23 runners finished an ultramarathon distance, and the prize purse was $10,000. Registration for the 2027 weekend opens September 14, 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
