Event Overview
The Day of the Dead Half Marathon - Dallas is a running event organized by the Bigfoot Running Company. It is scheduled for a Saturday in October at Fair Oaks Park. The event features multiple race distances, including a Kids Dash, a 1 Mile run, a 5K, a Quarter Marathon (6.55 miles), and a Half Marathon. Race Details
Participants can choose from several events:
- Kids Dash: A short dash for children 10 and under, not timed. It includes a t-shirt, medal, and recognition pin.
- 1 Mile Run: Open to all ages and experience levels, not chip-timed. It includes a t-shirt and medal.
- 5K Run: A chip-timed 3.1-mile race.
- Quarter Marathon: A chip-timed 6.55-mile race.
- Half Marathon: A chip-timed 13.1-mile race.
The longer chip-timed races (5K, Quarter Marathon, Half Marathon) award overall trophies and special recognition pins for Masters winners. Age group awards are given in multiple categories.
Event Experience
The event includes a pre-race costume contest themed around Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), with judging and a prize for the best costume. After the race, a post-race celebration features a rally tent with music, snacks, and refreshments. Aid stations provide water on the course. The course runs through park settings and may include paved trails, crushed granite, or dirt paths.
Logistics
Packet pickup is available on-site for 1.5 hours before the event start. Participants receive a t-shirt and finisher medal, with a shirt size guarantee cutoff 10 days before the event.
