RAF Spadeadam Blue Streak Trail Run
The RAF Spadeadam Blue Streak Trail Run is a sporting event held on an active RAF station originally constructed in 1955. The site served as the test centre for the Blue Streak rocket, an intermediate range ballistic missile. Because the run takes place within a military installation, participants have the opportunity to see historical sites and military equipment that are not typically accessible to the general public.
The course routes pass several landmarks, including iconic launch platforms and various practice targets. Participants can also observe views stretching over the Lake District, Hadrian's Wall, and Spadeadam Forest. The event is organized by the RAF Benevolent Fund charity, and all profits are donated to support members of the RAF family with practical, emotional, and financial assistance.
The event features two distances:
- 14 miles
- 11 km
The minimum age for participation in either distance is 16 years old. Registration for the event includes a finisher's medal and a selection of items for each runner. Due to the nature of the active military location, spectators are not permitted to access the station. Participation is limited to a specific number of entries.
