Event Overview
Pups & Pastries is a running and walking event held at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. This event supports Second Chance Pet Adoptions, a no-kill animal rescue organization in the Triangle area. The race aims to help combat animal homelessness, with proceeds from specific registrations directly benefiting the charity.
Race Options
Participants can choose from several distances and formats to suit their preferences:
- 6.5 Miles: Available as a standard race, a dog-friendly Doggie Dash, or a virtual option.
- 5K: Available as a standard race, a dog-friendly Doggie Dash, or a virtual option.
- Fun Mile: A one-mile race available in both in-person and virtual formats.
Specific participation rules apply to each event. The Doggie Dash 5K and 6.5 Mile races are designed for owners and their dogs; children aged 12 and younger are not permitted to participate in these specific dog-friendly categories. Conversely, the standard 5K, 6.5 Mile, and Fun Mile races allow children aged 12 and younger but do not permit dogs. Parents registered for the standard races may push children in strollers, provided the children are registered and numbered.
Participant Benefits
All finishers of the 5K and 6.5 Mile races receive a Pups & Pastries shirt and a finisher's medal. Participants in the Fun Mile receive a finisher's medal. The event also features an awards program for overall winners, age group leaders, and individuals who set new course records.
Dog Participation Guidelines
To run with a dog, participants must register for the Doggie Dash category and pay a separate fee, which is donated to the animal rescue. Only one dog is permitted per registered runner, and dogs must remain on a leash at all times according to insurance guidelines. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
