Event Details
The Gallop & Gorge 8K is a 8 km (4.97 miles) road race held on Thanksgiving Day in Carrboro, North Carolina. It is the final event in the three-race Le Tour de Carrboro series. The course is USATF-certified.
Course & Location
The race starts and finishes on Weaver Street in downtown Carrboro, in front of the Weaver Street Market. The route winds through local neighborhoods.
Registration & Logistics
The registration fee is $35. In-person registration and bib pickup are available at Fleet Feet Carrboro on the Tuesday and Wednesday before the race, and on race morning. Event organizers suggest carpooling and arriving early for parking, as over 1500 participants are expected. A list of suggested free public parking areas in downtown Carrboro is provided.
Policies & Features
Walkers are welcome, though they must move to the sidewalk if passed by the trailing police vehicle. Baby strollers and joggers are permitted but must start at the back. Pets are not allowed on the course. Non-refundable food donations for the InterFaith Council Community Market are encouraged.
Awards & Community
Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers in multiple categories, including Open, Masters, and many age groups from 9 & under to 80+, as well as Athena and Clydesdale divisions. The awards are handmade pottery from a local artist, with top winners also receiving coffee from a local roaster. A $50 prize is offered for breaking the overall course records. The event supports several local community partners and charities.
Additional Activities
Free "Little Turkey" kids races for children aged 2-9 are held after the main awards on the Libba Cotten Bikeway. Activities like chalk drawing are available at Fleet Feet before and during the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
