Event overview
The Birds of a Feather Trail Trot is a Thanksgiving Day trail run held on November 27, 2025 at Briar Chapel in Chapel Hill, NC. The event offers both timed races and untimed fun runs, with limits of 200 participants per timed race and a 600 participant event maximum. Race registration includes a race tee, chip timing for the timed events, aid stations, medical support, and free post-race photos. The staging area is Great Meadow Park at Briar Chapel, 161 Salt Cedar Lane, Chapel Hill, NC 27516.

Courses and logistics
The 2 Mile course measures 2.04 miles with 134 feet of elevation gain. It includes about 0.79 mile of paved road and trail, 0.71 mile of grass and mostly smooth non-technical trails, and 0.54 mile of sidewalks and paved trail to the finish. The timed 2 Mile has an age minimum of 5 years; kids 4 and under may enter the 2 Mile fun run for free (t-shirt not included).
The 5K course is listed as 3.38 miles (5.4K) with 217 feet of elevation gain. It begins with 0.43 mile of pavement, continues with 2.79 miles of double-track and single-track trails that include roots, rocks, and short hill climbs, and finishes with 0.26 mile of paved trail. Strollers are permitted on the 2 Mile fun run but are not permitted on the 5K or in the 2 Mile timed race. Pets are not permitted on either course.
Family, awards, and charity
A free Kids Race for Treasure is offered for children 11 and under in two rounds. Age and accompaniment rules: racers must be at least 10 years old to run unaccompanied; ages 8-9 must run alongside a registered parent or guardian unless approved; ages 7 and under must run with a registered parent or guardian. Awards are given to top overall finishers and to age-group places for the timed 2 Mile and 5K races. PORCH Briar Chapel is the charity partner; donations and food items for local food pantries are accepted and Roadless Races will match 10% of funds collected.
