The Leesville Community Turkey Trot is an annual running event held in Raleigh, North Carolina. This race serves as the primary fundraising effort for the Murphy Scholarship, an endowed scholarship established in 2011 to honor the memory of the first principal of Leesville Road High School. The event functions as a community gathering and an informal reunion for local alumni and families.
The featured race distance is:
- 5K running race
The course is USATF-certified and takes participants through local neighborhood roads. While the route features course monitors and a police presence, the roads remain open to traffic, requiring participants to yield to both motorized and non-motorized vehicles. The course is inclusive for various participants, as it is wheelchair, dog, and stroller friendly.
Participants who wish to have an official recorded time must pre-register for the event. Those who register on the day of the race, provided the event is not sold out, will not be eligible for official timing. To ensure results are captured, runners must wear their race number pinned securely on their front midsection. Official results are posted publicly and include gender identification designations. For those not focused on competitive timing, the course includes "Roost Stops" which provide additional points of interest along the route.
