About the race
The Puffing Billy Running Festival takes place at Emerald Lake Park and in the nearby area around Emerald and Belgrave in Victoria, Australia. The two-day event features multiple races that pair running with the historic Puffing Billy steam railway.
Day one at Emerald Lake Park includes:
- 1.5 km Junior Dash
- 5 km Family Fun Run / Walk
The 5 km event requires children aged 15 and under to be accompanied by an adult and offers family team registration options for adults running with children. Day two stages the 13.5 km Classic race from Belgrave to Emerald. The Classic has a course cut off of 2 hours 15 minutes. The festival stages a finish zone at the Puffing Billy Lakeside Visitor Centre in Emerald Lake Park that provides free massages, family entertainment, music and sponsor activities.
The festival continues a multi decade tradition of runners racing the Puffing Billy steam locomotive. Special race trains for the weekend are noted as sold out.
