The Plaid Nation 5K

The Plaid Nation 5K serves as the official kick-off to the RBC Heritage week, a PGA TOUR golf tournament in South Carolina. Based in Hilton Head Island, the event supports the Heritage Classic Foundation, an organization that provides funding for local charities, scholarships, and community programs. The race route begins at Lowcountry Celebration Park and guides participants through the South Forest Beach neighborhood. The course utilizes hidden paths and local streets before returning to the park for a festival and after-party.

The event features the following distances:

5K for kids 12 and under

Participants receive a variety of event-specific items, including a technical t-shirt and a finishers medal. Registration for adults also includes two entries into the RBC Heritage practice round held the following Tuesday. The event includes a competitive element with awards for the top three male and female finishers. Overall winners receive a trophy and tournament tickets, while second and third-place finishers receive sports equipment or gift cards. Performance medals are also awarded to the top three finishers in each age division, ranging from under 12 to over 80 years old.

The celebration continues post-race with a festival at the park followed by an evening event at Poseidon. Sustainability is a focus of the race, with recycling initiatives provided by the Palmetto Running Company to reduce the environmental footprint.
