Olympic Adventure Trail Run
The OAT Run takes place on the Olympic Adventure Trail in Port Angeles, Washington. The event features point-to-point courses for shorter distances and an out-and-back course for the ultramarathon. All routes consist of single-track trails that traverse Kelly Ridge, located between Olympic National Park and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Participants run through evergreen forests characterized by moss, ferns, and spring flowers, with views of the Elwha River Valley at the "Living Room" section of the trail.
Available distances include:
- 50K: A 31-mile out-and-back course with approximately 4,500 feet of cumulative elevation gain and an 8-hour time limit.
- Half Marathon: A course of approximately 12.8 miles with roughly 1,300 feet of elevation gain.
- 12K: A distance of approximately 7.25 miles featuring about 600 feet of elevation gain.
Each distance has a participation limit of 130 runners. Logistics require all participants to use a mandatory shuttle service from Extreme Sports Park to the starting areas. The courses are supported by water and electrolyte stations; the 50K includes seven stations, the Half Marathon has two stations, and the 12K provides one station at mile 4.
The event concludes with an after-party at Extreme Sports Park, featuring views of the Olympic Mountains, a campfire, and a hot meal. Event registration includes chip timing, custom race swag, and professional photography. A portion of the proceeds is donated to local organizations for trail maintenance and construction on the North Olympic Peninsula. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
