The Watermelon 5K Blydenburgh NSRF
The Watermelon 5K is an event held in Blydenburgh County Park / Nissaquogue Lands near Hauppauge, NY. The main distance is a 5K and the event also includes a free Kiddie Fun Run.
The course uses a mixture of pavement, dirt roads, and hard-packed trails that are passable by vehicle. Portable toilets are located near the finish line and other bathrooms are within a few minutes walk of the start and finish. Hydration is provided at the finish, and post-race refreshments include watermelon slices and drinks supplied by event partners.
Parking is available inside Blydenburgh County Park; arriving before 8 am avoids a $7 per car parking fee that applies after that time. Alternative parking is available at the Dennison Building across the street, which is about a half mile from the race start. The organizer identifies primary, secondary, and additional lots within the park for spectator and participant parking.
An informal bag check area is provided but the organizer does not assume responsibility for belongings. Bibs can be mailed for a $10 fee if registration is completed at least 10 days in advance; in-person bib pickup is available at the Grecian Center / Peristyle near the finish area. A virtual participation option allows entrants to log a time and upload up to five photos within the event window.
A portion of proceeds benefits the Never Stop Running Foundation, a 501(c)(3) that supports athletic and charitable programs. Awards include watermelons for top overall finishers and winners in multiple age groups. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
