Course and logistics
The marathon, marathon walk, marathon relay and half marathon use a point-to-point layout that follows the Olympic Discovery Trail and finishes with a five mile stretch along the shore of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The 10K, 5K and kids marathon are out-and-back routes along the same shoreline. The trail is a rails-to-trails course with a wide, hard surface that is 99% paved. The course is marked at every mile and water stations are located approximately every two miles. Typical June climate averages are listed as high 65F, low 49F, mean 57F.
Additional details
The course is USATF certified and is a Boston Marathon qualifier. Wildlife sightings commonly reported from the trail include seals, eagles and shore birds; salmon can be seen spawning at the Morse Creek crossing in the fall. The event offers series medals for 2026 that magnetize together and were designed by a local artist. Start and finish points are associated with local hotels, including the Red Lion Hotel and 7 Cedars Hotel. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
