NOLA Dogs "Race to the Rescue" 5K Run/Walk (2026)
The NOLA Dogs "Race to the Rescue" is a fundraising 5K run and walk held on October 11, 2026 at Heaven's Pets at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans. This edition is described as the ninth annual event and offers both an in-person, chip timed 5K and a virtual division.
Participants receive a commemorative T-shirt, a finisher medal, a goodie bag and post-race refreshments. The course runs through the historic grounds of Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery. A second line parade with a live brass band precedes the race and a Blessing of the Pets follows the event. Dogs are not allowed on the 5K course.
Proceeds are donated to a group of local rescues and nonprofits, including Animal Rescue New Orleans, Take Paws, Trampled Rose Rescue, Zeus' Rescues and The Inner Pup. These organizations are registered 501(c)(3) charities that take in abandoned or injured animals, operate foster programs and provide care during hurricane season. Event information notes that veterinary bills for rescued animals can exceed $1,000.
Awards include a cash prize and trophy for first overall male and female, age group awards, trophies for top fundraising teams and various random awards. Packet pickup is available on a pre-race day at a local shop and at the race site on event day. Parking is provided in the large lots adjacent to the cemetery.
