2026 NOLA Dogs Race to the Rescue 5K Run/Walk

The 9th annual NOLA Dogs Race to the Rescue 5K takes place on October 11, 2026, in New Orleans. The event features a unique course through the historic grounds of Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery. This fundraising event supports several animal rescue organizations that provide care, medical treatment, and foster programs for abandoned or neglected animals.

Participants can choose from the following registration options:

  • 5K Run (chip-timed)
  • 5K Walk
  • Virtual Division

The event includes several pre-race and post-race activities. A second line parade featuring a live brass band proceeds the run, while a Blessing of the Pets is held after the race. While a pet parade walk occurs earlier in the morning, dogs are not permitted on the 5K course during the main run and walk divisions.

Participants receive a commemorative t-shirt, a finisher medal, a goodie bag, and post-race refreshments such as pulled pork sliders and fruit. The event also hosts an online auction featuring art, gift cards, and hotel stays.

Awards are presented to the first-place overall male and female finishers, as well as the top male and female finishers in age groups ranging from 19-under to 80-over. Registration for the in-person event is limited to 1000 participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
