2026 NOLA Dogs "Race to the Rescue" 5K Run/Walk
The 2026 NOLA Dogs Race to the Rescue is the ninth annual 5K run and walk held on October 11, 2026 at Heaven's Pets at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans. The event is presented as a chip timed race with an option to participate virtually.
Proceeds and fundraising from the event are donated to several animal rescue organizations, including Animal Rescue New Orleans, Take Paws, Trampled Rose Rescue, Zeus' Rescues, and The Inner Pup. The organizers encourage fundraising; participants who raise $100 are highlighted and registrations reaching $250 or more have their registration fee waived.
Participant benefits listed include a commemorative T shirt, an official finisher medal, a goodie bag, and post race refreshments. The course runs through the historic grounds of Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery. Awards include cash and trophies for first overall male and female, age group awards, and prizes for top fundraising teams. Pets are not allowed on the 5K course for runners and walkers, though a pre race pet parade and a Blessing of the Pets take place as part of the event program.
Logistics published by the organizer note packet pickup options before race day and on site, use of large parking lots adjacent to the cemetery, a rain or shine policy with rescheduling for severe weather, and a registration limit of 1000 entries. The event is managed by New Orleans Running Systems Road Race Management. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
