2026 NOLA Dogs "Race to the Rescue" 5K Run/Walk
The 9th annual NOLA Dogs Race to the Rescue is a 5K run and walk on Sunday, October 11, 2026, held at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery and hosted by Heaven's Pets. The event offers both an in-person, chip timed race and a virtual division. The course passes through the historic grounds of Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery.
The event is organized to raise funds for local animal rescue organizations. Participants are asked to consider fundraising with a suggested minimum of $100; participants who raise $250 or more have their registration fee waived. Registration is limited to 1,000 entries. Fundraising and donor totals are published for teams and individuals, and the event had raised $7,891.28 at the time of listing.
Registration includes a commemorative race T-shirt, a finisher medal, a race-day goodie bag, and post-race refreshments. Awards include a cash prize of $100 and a trophy for first-place male and female finishers, plus trophies for top fundraising teams.
Race morning features a second line parade with a live brass band, a Blessing of the Pets, adoptable dogs, local vendors, food and drinks, and a silent auction. The event proceeds rain or shine, with a plan to reschedule only in cases of severe weather. A number of local sponsors support the event.
