About the race
The NLAA 2026 Cross-Country Championships is organized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Athletics Association (NLAA) and takes place at Bowring Park in St. John's on Saturday, October 24, 2026. The event includes age-category races from U16 through Masters on the park trails.
Race distances:
- 2 km - U16
- 4 km - U18
- 6 km - U20, Senior, Masters
The course runs on the trails of Bowring Park. The route is hilly and mostly gravel, is marked with orange ribbons, flags, and traffic cones, and is not suitable for spikes. There is no course tour and participants are expected to be familiar with the layout and start and finish areas. No change rooms are available on site.
Registration and eligibility details include a minimum age of participants born in 2014 or earlier, regular registration closing at midnight on October 22, and late registration with a fee at 2:00 pm on October 23. A one day event permit or individual competitive membership is required (permit fees: $1 for U16 and U18, $5 for U20/Senior/Masters). The entry fee is $15 for regular registration and $25 for late registration.
Team scoring is limited to schools and clubs affiliated with the NLAA before the registration deadline; the first four finishers score for team competition in U16 and U18. U16 athletes may opt to compete in the U18 race for funding consideration but then forfeit U16 medal eligibility. Athletes must compete in the category determined by their year of birth; results in an incorrect category will not be recognized.
A no-headphone rule is enforced: wearing headphones while competing will result in disqualification and no refund. The NLAA also maintains a funding policy to support elite-level athletes attending the Canadian Cross Country Championships on November 29, 2026 in Quebec City.
