Event Details

The Loughshannagh Horseshoe is part of the Hill & Dales League for 2026. It is organised by Newcastle AC and takes place in County Down on Thursday, 11th June. The route is classified as an "Easy Terrain" event.

Route Information

The main course covers a distance of 6.90 km with a total climb of 560 m. There is no short course available for this event. The route marking policy states that only major junctions will be marked, and the use of GPS devices is not allowed.

Mandatory Kit

All participants are required to bring a specific set of equipment, classified as Level B - Standard Mandatory Kit. This includes:

  • Waterproof jacket
  • Hat or buff
  • Gloves
  • Whistle
  • Charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored
  • Foil blanket, bivvy bag, or equivalent

Runners must have the means to carry all required kit. The exact items to be carried during the race will be confirmed on the event day based on conditions. Random checks may be conducted, and failure to have the required items may result in denied entry or disqualification.

Volunteering

Non-running volunteers are needed, and volunteering for at least two non-running roles in a calendar year is required to qualify for end-of-year prizes. The race director may also need running volunteers, but this role does not count towards the prize qualification. Participants are encouraged to volunteer at least once for every ten events they run. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
