MTC CYMRUN (14–19 April 2026)
The MTC CYMRUN is a six day end-to-end running challenge across Wales, starting on Anglesey and finishing at Barry Island. The event covers a total of 256 miles and forms part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge. Each day is an individual ultra with a unique name and medal. Accommodation is provided by the organiser for the end of Days 1 to 5, with food and support included during the event. Competitor places are limited to 20. Entrants must be at least 20 years old on the start day.
All finishers receive a race medal, a trophy, a bottle of champagne, and six additional day-specific medals. Entry options include a full entry fee with staged payments and a charity entry route requiring a deposit and a minimum fundraising target. Mapping and GPX files are supplied to entrants only, and tracking devices are issued to monitor progress and provide an SOS function.
Route, logistics and rules
The route follows National Cycle Route 8 for much of the distance, with a short extension at the start to touch the sea at Holyhead and an extension at the finish into Barry Island Bay. Daily distances are:
- Day 1 - 37.6 miles (Holyhead to Caernarfon)
- Day 2 - 50.3 miles (Caernarfon to Barmouth)
- Day 3 - 47.2 miles (Barmouth to Llanidloes)
- Day 4 - 46.4 miles (Llanidloes to Glasbury)
- Day 5 - 39.8 miles (Glasbury to Merthyr Tydfil)
- Day 6 - 34.9 miles (Merthyr Tydfil to Barry Island)
Competitors must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, and a basic first aid kit. The organiser enforces a minimum average speed of 4 mph; falling below this on consecutive days leads to withdrawal. No competitor may remain on course after 22:00. If a competitor retires, the organiser will transfer them to the nearest train station or agreed terminus. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
