Event Overview

The MTC CYMRUN 26 is a six-day, multi-stage ultrarunning event covering 256 miles from Holyhead on Anglesey to Barry Island in Wales. It is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge series. The route primarily follows Cycle Route 8 and each daily stage is also an individual ultramarathon themed around Welsh myths and legends.

Route and Stages

The event takes place over six consecutive days in April 2026. The daily distances are:

  • Day 1: 37.6 miles (Holyhead to Caernarfon)
  • Day 2: 50.3 miles (Caernarfon to Barmouth)
  • Day 3: 47.2 miles (Barmouth to Llanidloes)
  • Day 4: 46.4 miles (Llanidloes to Glasbury)
  • Day 5: 39.8 miles (Glasbury to Merthyr Tydfil)
  • Day 6: 34.9 miles (Merthyr Tydfil to Barry Island)

The daily stages are named: MTC Angelystor, MTC Cerridwen, MTC Gelert, MTC Pendragon, MTC Afanc, and MTC Y Ddraig Goch.

Logistics and Requirements

The entry fee includes hotel accommodation from the end of Day 1 through Day 5, all meals, and support. Competitors are responsible for booking their own accommodation in Holyhead before the start and in Barry Island after the finish. Shared rooms are provided.

The event has a strict time limit, requiring runners to maintain a minimum average pace of 4 miles per hour. Runners not meeting this requirement will be withdrawn from the race. No runner is allowed on the course after 22:00. Competitor numbers are limited to 20.

Participants must carry mandatory kit, including a backpack, head torch, maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, and basic first aid kit. The organizer provides hi-vis technical apparel, a hi-vis jacket, and a tracking device with an SOS button for each competitor. This is a cup-free event; runners must bring their own reusable cup.
