Mt. Tam Trail Run
The Mt. Tam Trail Run is a multi-distance trail event based at Stinson Beach, running into and around Mount Tamalpais in Marin County. Courses begin at the beach, climb to viewpoints on Mt. Tam, and return via trails through the Headlands back to the shoreline. The event is limited to 500 runners across all distances. Parking is available in the Stinson Beach Day Use Area and is free.
Distances offered include:
- 50K - 30.0 miles, 6,000' elevation gain
- 30K - 18.5 miles, 3,900' elevation gain
- Half Marathon - 13.0 miles, 2,800' elevation gain
- 10K - 6.8 miles, 1,600' elevation gain
Most of each course is on technical dirt trails and non-technical fire roads. Hiking or trekking poles are permitted. Courses are marked with colored ribbon placed frequently, with blue ribbons indicating wrong-way trails. All races are chip timed using disposable chips attached to the back of the bib.
Aid stations provide a variety of foods and drinks and basic first aid items; Gu Energy gels are restricted at some aid stations within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The event is cupless; runners must carry their own bottles or reusable cups. Reusable cups and 500 ml soft flasks will be available for purchase on site. Drop bag service is not offered.
Awards include overall and age-group prizes, custom trophies for top finishers, finisher medals for all finishers, and a pint glass for all 50K finishers. Volunteers receive a race T-shirt, food, and event credit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
