Move Free Whoopie Mile
The Move Free Whoopie Mile combines short loop running with eating whoopie pies. Organizers supply the whoopies and participants eat one at the end of every 0.25 mile lap. The entire whoopie must be finished before the next lap begins. If a participant vomits they are disqualified.
There are three competition formats. The Solo Mile Division is four loops (a 1 mile total) with four whoopies; the winner is the fastest time. The Relay Division is also four loops with four whoopies and teams of two to four members; the winner is the fastest team time. The Solo Endurance Division repeats one lap and one whoopie as many times as possible; each lap must be completed in under 10 minutes and the winner completes the most laps. Individuals may compete in both the Solo Mile Division and the Solo Endurance Division by running their first mile and then continuing in the endurance format.
The course is a 0.25 mile loop on the College of the Atlantic campus and the Eden Street sidewalk in Bar Harbor, Maine. The loop surface is approximately half pavement and half gravel and has minimal elevation. The transition zone for eating whoopies is located near the Whale Skull at the campus main entrance. Parking is available on campus or within easy walking distance from town. Bragging rights are awarded to the event champion until the next year and additional prizes are given for team names and costumes. Advance registration is available before race day.
