Bar Harbor Bank and Trust Half Marathon and Fall 5K
The event offers two distances and takes place in and around Bar Harbor, Maine. The route for the half marathon uses a mix of town streets and park trails, with about nine miles on hard-packed carriage roads built in 1913. The course leaves the harbor, climbs into Acadia National Park, passes through dense forest, crosses several old granite bridges, and then loops back to town.
The half marathon course is described as hilly and includes natural trail surfaces for a substantial portion of the distance. Walkers are explicitly welcomed and may complete the half marathon at a walking pace.
The event is organized as a fundraiser for the Mount Desert Island YMCA; entry fees support YMCA programs and services for individuals and families. Organizers state an environmental commitment because the course travels through Acadia National Park. They note that paper cups make up a large share of race waste and encourage participants to bring reusable cups, handheld bottles, or hydration packs. There are six water stations on the course where paper cups will be provided this year.
