Mt. Disappointment Mountain Race

Mt. Disappointment Mountain Race is a trail ultra held in the Angeles National Forest with courses that start and finish at Mt. Wilson Skyline Park. The event is scheduled for September 26, 2026 and offers two main distances. The course features technical single track, rocky sections, steep climbs, fast descents, and runs through pine forest and chaparral with panoramic views toward the San Gabriel Valley, a historic Nike missile site, and the Mt. Wilson Observatory. Peak elevation on the course is listed at 5,800 ft.

• 25K: 15.5 miles, 3,800 ft elevation gain, 5 hour cutoff
• 50K: 31 miles, 7,000 ft elevation gain, 10 hour cutoff

Trails are marked with ribbons and signs. Fully stocked aid stations are placed approximately every 5 to 7 miles; the 25K course includes two aid stations and the 50K includes five. Race rules state no drop bags, no pacers, and that trekking poles are permitted. Runners are advised to carry extra water between Josephine Saddle and RedBox and to use GPS tracks. Top three male and female finishers receive awards for each distance. Entry fees are non-refundable, transfers and deferrals are not allowed, and active military personnel receive a 20 percent discount.
