Mt. Disappointment Mountain Race
The Mt. Disappointment Mountain Race is a trail ultramarathon held in the Angeles National Forest on September 26, 2026. The event begins and ends at the summit of Mt. Wilson (Mt. Wilson Skyline Park), located about 45 minutes from Los Angeles. The course runs entirely on trail and offers marked routes with ribbons and signs.
Distances offered:
- 31 miles (50K) - 7,000 ft gain, 10 hour cutoff
- 15.5 miles (25K) - 3,800 ft gain, 5 hour cutoff
The terrain is technical single track with rocky sections, steep climbs, and fast descents through pine forest and chaparral. Scenery includes panoramic views of the San Gabriel Valley, a historic Nike missile site, and the Mt. Wilson Observatory. Aid stations are fully stocked and placed approximately every 5 to 7 miles; the 25K has two aid stations and the 50K has five aid stations. The course requires navigation awareness and organizers recommend carrying GPS tracks and extra water between Josephine Saddle and RedBox.
Entry fees, early bird pricing, and equipment notes are published by the organizer. Registration closes on September 1, 2026 or when the race reaches capacity. All entry fees are non refundable and transfers or deferrals are not allowed. The event operates under a United States Forest Service permit in the Angeles National Forest.
