Mt. Disappointment Mountain Race
Mt. Disappointment Mountain Race offers two ultra trail distances on the historic trails around Mt. Wilson in the Angeles National Forest on September 26, 2026. The event starts and finishes at the summit of Mt. Wilson and is held under a USFS permit.
Distances
- 50K / 31 miles : 7,000 ft elevation gain; 5 aid stations; 10 hour cutoff
- 25K / 15.5 miles : 3,800 ft elevation gain; 2 aid stations; 5 hour cutoff
The course is 100% trail with technical single track, rocky sections, steep climbs and fast descents through pine forest and chaparral. Trails are marked with ribbons and signs, and aid stations are fully stocked approximately every 5–7 miles. Runners are advised to carry extra water between Josephine Saddle and RedBox and to use GPS tracks on phone or watch.
Race rules include no drop bags, no pacers, and allowance of trekking poles. Cutoff times at aid stations are strictly enforced. Packet pickup is available only on race morning and parking is limited; carpooling is recommended. Active military personnel receive a 20% discount. Registration fees are non-refundable and transfers or deferrals are not allowed. Registration closes September 1, 2026 or when the race reaches capacity.
