LA Turkey Trail
The LA Turkey Trail is an off-road running event held on Thanksgiving morning in the Santa Monica Mountains of Los Angeles. The race starts at the Top of Reseda Trailhead and traverses fire roads and singletrack trails, offering views of the San Fernando Valley, the Pacific Ocean, and the San Gabriel Mountains. This event is a cupless race, requiring participants to provide their own hydration vessels.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 1/2 Marathon: A course covering 13.67 miles with 2,323 feet of elevation gain, including a singletrack descent on Westridge.
- 10k: A 6.7-mile route with 857 feet of elevation gain that runs along Dirt Mulholland to the Nike Missile Tower.
- 5k Fun Run & Hike: A 2.76-mile out-and-back course with 448 feet of elevation gain.
The event features a competitive element with a cash prize for the top female and male finishers in the 1/2 Marathon. All participants receive a finisher medal, a race shirt (choice of cotton or tech fabric), and digital race photography. The finish line area includes a beer garden for those 21 and over, a vegan-friendly taco breakfast, and sports massage treatments.
The organizers also host a canned food drive at the registration area to benefit the West Valley Food Bank. This race serves as the final event in the SoCalTrail Half Series, a collection of six trail races held throughout the year. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
