Mount Desert Island Marathon, Half & Relay
The Mount Desert Island event offers a marathon, a half marathon, team relays, a public safety relay, and a kids run on Mount Desert Island, Maine. The course passes lakes, mountains, Maine villages, seaside vistas, and Somes Sound, and runs alongside parts of Acadia National Park during peak fall foliage season. The marathon and team relay start in Bar Harbor, the half marathon starts in Northeast Harbor, and all races finish in Southwest Harbor in front of Pemetic School.
The race is hosted by Crow Athletics and operated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The course is USATF certified and race timing uses B-Tag technology with live results and split points for each distance. Bib numbers are color coded by event and experience level; bib pickup is in person and requires photo identification. The race provides bus service to the half marathon start and shuttle service from the finish back to Bar Harbor. Parking in downtown Bar Harbor is paid and some residential restrictions apply on race day.
Course and weekend advisories note a temporary pedestrian bridge at a specific mile on the route with uneven surfaces and a narrow walkway; participants must follow the pedestrian path and keep left except to pass. The event has received multiple awards and media recognition and includes finisher medallions and prize purses and bonuses for top marathon and half marathon finishers.
