Mount Desert Island Marathon, Half & Relay
The Mount Desert Island Marathon, Half and Team Relay are road races held on Mount Desert Island, Maine. The event routes run through landscapes that include lakes, mountains, village streets, seaside vistas and sections adjacent to Acadia National Park. The course passes Somes Sound and finishes in Southwest Harbor in front of Pemetic School. The Marathon and Team Relay begin in Bar Harbor and the Half begins in Northeast Harbor.
The event is organized by Crow Athletics and uses B-Tag timing provided by ARE Event Productions; live results and time splits are available online. The course is USATF certified. All finishers receive the event medallion known as the Crusher Claw. Prize purses and time bonuses are awarded for top Marathon and Half-Marathon finishers, and age-group and local resident awards are available. Team relay awards are also given.
Race check-in requires in-person bib pickup with photo ID at the designated packet pickup location; unclaimed bibs are available at the Village Green Gazebo race morning. Race materials and shirts are not mailed. A 2026 course advisory notes a temporary bridge on ME-198/3 in Somesville where runners must use a pedestrian walkway with narrow and uneven surfaces and keep left except to pass. The event is held annually the weekend following Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Entry fees are non-refundable under the stated cancellation policy.
