Mount Desert Island Marathon, Half & Relay
The Mount Desert Island event offers road races on Mount Desert Island, Maine, along a USATF certified course that passes Acadia National Park scenery and Somes Sound. The Marathon and Team Relay start in Bar Harbor, the Half-Marathon starts in Northeast Harbor, and all races finish in front of Pemetic School in Southwest Harbor.
Races use B-Tag timing by ARE Event Productions with live online results and multiple time splits for both marathon and half fields. Bib pickup requires each participant to collect their own bib in person at the MDI YMCA with photo ID; unclaimed bibs are available on race morning at the Village Green. The course advisory notes a temporary bridge at mile 6.7 of the half and mile 19.8 of the full with a pedestrian walkway, uneven surfaces, and a narrow path where runners must keep LEFT except to pass.
Awards include the event finisher medallion known as the CRUSHER CLAW, podium recognition for top finishers, age-group awards, local resident awards, and prize purses for top marathon and half-marathon finishers with time bonuses. The weekend includes a pre-race pasta dinner fundraiser, shuttle bus service between start and finish areas, parking guidelines for Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and Southwest Harbor, and a nonprofit community program called Beyond the Finish Line that supports local organizations.
