Mount Desert Island Marathon, Half & Relay
The Mount Desert Island Marathon, Half & Relay is an annual road-race weekend on Mount Desert Island, Maine. The event program includes a marathon, a half-marathon, a team relay, a public safety relay and a kids run. The marathon and team relay start in Bar Harbor, the half-marathon starts in Northeast Harbor, and the main races finish in Southwest Harbor.
The award-winning course passes lakes, mountains, small coastal villages and seaside vistas, including Somes Sound, noted as the only fjord on the Eastern Seaboard. Much of the route runs alongside or near Acadia National Park during peak fall foliage season. The course is USATF certified.
Race weekend programming listed by organizers includes a health and fitness expo and a pre-race pasta dinner, and information for spectators and volunteers is provided. The event is held annually the weekend following Indigenous Peoples' Day and is hosted by Crow Athletics.
