Mount Desert Island Marathon, Half & Relay
The event offers road races on Mount Desert Island with multiple race formats: a full marathon, a half-marathon, team relays, and additional community races. The course is USATF certified and runs through terrain that includes lakes, mountains, small villages, and seaside vistas, passing Somes Sound and sections adjacent to Acadia National Park during peak fall foliage.
Start locations differ by race: the marathon and team relay start in Bar Harbor, and the half-marathon starts in Northeast Harbor. All races finish in front of Pemetic School in Southwest Harbor. Race timing uses B-Tag technology with live tracking and online results; finish-line kiosks provide immediate results and award pickup.
Race administration requires in-person bib pickup with photo identification at the MDI YMCA gymnasium; unclaimed bibs are taken to the Village Green on race morning. Race bibs are color-coded to identify participant categories (experienced marathoner, first-time marathoner, half-marathon, relay, and charity fundraisers). Race organizers note a temporary bridge and pedestrian walkway at the Babson Brook location on the route; participants must follow the designated walkway, be aware of uneven surfaces and narrow sections, and keep left except to pass.
Awards include finisher medallions, podium recognition for top overall finishers, age-group awards, and prize purses for top marathon and half-marathon finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
