Event Overview
The Moore County Trail Marathon, Half, and 5K is a charity event. It is part of the Sandhills Running "Miles 4 Moore" series, with proceeds supporting community wellness programs. Funds are used for gym memberships, coaching, and nutrition consultations for low-income families and high school athletes.
Race Details
The event takes place on Saturday, March 7, 2026, in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Registration opens on December 1, 2025, and remains open through race day. There are three events:
- Moore County Trail Marathon
- Moore County Trail 1/2 Marathon
- Moore County Trail 5K
It is open to runners, walkers, and backpackers. The marathon has a 7-hour time limit, equating to a pace of 16:01 per mile.
Course Information
The marathon and half marathon follow a looped trail route around Reservoir Park, Whitehall Trail, and Nick’s Creek Trail. Marathon participants run this loop twice. The course features four aid stations stocked with water, Gatorade, and snacks, providing eight stops for marathon runners. The 5K course is a scenic route around Reservoir Park.
The start line is near the Palmer Trades Center, with parking available at the Faulkner parking lot of Sandhills Community College on Earhart Drive.
Participant Experience
Participants receive an official race t-shirt and a finisher's medal, though t-shirts are not guaranteed for registrations after February 25, 2026. There will be prizes for the top male and female in each event category. Packet pickup is available on race morning between 6:30-7:00 AM or the evening before at Pace Yourself Run Co in Downtown Southern Pines.
The event is described as a self-paced fun run/walk aimed at building community wellness. For spectators, Reservoir Park and nearby gardens offer natural scenery, hiking, and fishing. Food trucks and activities are planned on-site, while nearby towns have shopping and dining options.
