Event Overview

The Sandhills Sasquatch event consists of two trail races on a repetitive one-mile loop on the Weymouth Woods Boyd Tract Loop in Southern Pines, North Carolina. The course is a well-maintained and well-marked trail that goes around the Weymouth Center property and passes the oldest known living Long Leaf Pine Tree, estimated to be over 470 years old.

Distances

  • 1 Mile Repeat-4 Hour Race: Participants complete as many one-mile loops as possible within a four-hour period.
  • 5K: This option involves three loops of the same one-mile course, with a one-hour cutoff time. Runners registered for the 5K are allowed to continue running more laps and opt into the full four-hour challenge.

Event Details

This is a self-paced event. For the four-hour option, the winner is the runner who covers the most distance in the allotted time. Participants may run, walk, and rest as needed. Organizers will record laps. An aid station at the start/finish line will provide water, Gatorade, and snacks. Participants can set up personal tents, tables, and aid stations in the nearby park area. Prizes are awarded for the top male and female in both the four-hour and 5K events. All participants receive an official race t-shirt and finishing medal, though t-shirt availability for registrations after October 12, 2026 is not guaranteed.
