19th Annual Minnesota Mile
The Minnesota Mile is a point-to-point and loop race located in Duluth, Minnesota, that features a course distance of 1 mile (5,280 feet). The event is organized by the Young Athletes Foundation, a branch of Grandma’s Marathon, and is designed for participants of various experience levels, from first-time runners to competitive athletes. The race has a total participant capacity of 600 people, with entry accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
The course starts and finishes near historic Enger Park. The route travels along the Enger Park Golf Course and moves past Twin Ponds before continuing along Skyline Parkway around Enger Tower. Participants can view the Duluth skyline, the Aerial Lift Bridge, and Lake Superior during the run. The race utilizes a dynamic numbering system where bibs are assigned at packet pickup.
To manage congestion on narrow parts of the course, the event is organized into multiple heats based on recommended paces:
- 1 mile (Recreational Heats)
- 1 mile (Masters Men’s & Women’s Competitive)
- 1 mile (Open Women’s Competitive)
- 1 mile (Open Men’s Competitive)
Participants receive a commemorative long-sleeve shirt with their entry fee. Post-race refreshments including water, bananas, and chips are provided in the finish area using reusable blue cups. The event also features a team competition for groups of three or more, with categories for all-male, all-female, mixed, and corporate teams.
